FAQs

Is this a cleanse?

NO! We will eat whole foods and have three meals per day; you will choose what to cook for yourself/you and your family. There is a recommended 3-5 day mono-diet in week 3 where you will eat rice for breakfast and kitchari for both lunch and dinner.

What else will I need to purchase?

You will be responsible for buying your own food, all of which is easy to obtain and will mostly consist of rice & other whole grains, dried legumes, vegetables, ghee & other oils.

I recommend that you have a yoga mat and perhaps some yoga props.

You may want to obtain a tongue scraper, a neti pot, and an oil for abhyanga (discussed in wk 2).

If you are short on time or not accustomed to cooking rice/other grains or dried legumes, I highly recommend the Instant Pot (no affiliation) to save time and make cooking easy.

How much time will this take on a daily basis?

By week 2, you are ideally cooking all of your own food; please make time for this if you are accustomed to eating out/ordering in regularly. The yoga, pranayama, and meditation practices could be started with as little as 10 minutes per day; the key is consistency. Your dinacharya (daily self-care routine) can similarly start with just a few minutes per day.

Is the diet extreme?

NO! What you eat during these 4 weeks is your choice. We will be learning how to cultivate good digestive health through the lens of Ayurveda, which emphasizes whole foods and appropriate combinations of foods, with 3 meals per day. I promise that you won’t go hungry and you’re going to eat some very tasty and satisfying meals:) It’s up to you how much of the dietary guidance you incorporate during these 4 weeks. Consistency and sustainability are key when making changes.

Can I still eat meat?

Yes. Meat or fish, especially those that are leaner/easier to digest, may be incorporated into the diet as can some dairy. Again, what you eat during these 4 weeks if your choice. Many who follow an Ayurvedic lifestyle do not eat meat or fish and consume only some dairy in moderation, with the exception of ghee, which is generally used daily.

Is this vegan-friendly?

Those eating a vegan diet are welcome. Aside from ghee, an Ayurvedic diet can often easily be vegan on a day to day basis.
